WILL AN ACTIVE OR RETIRED STEELWORKER EVER RECEIVE A BILL FOR EITHER MY HEARING AIDS OR CONSULTATION/ TEST?
No you will not. As long as you are completely covered under your insurance offered through your local union hall. (which we confirm at the time of your appointment) you will never receive a bill for services rendered. However if you do not have the coverage for hearing aids, the consultation and hearing test is always at no charge. You will receive an explanation of benefits in the mail following your appointment (if you received hearing aids) this IS NOT A BILL. It only explains that we billed your insurance and if there is an overage listed, it is not your responsibility. We stand true to no money out of pocket (for qualified patients) Please call for anymore information or question you may have.
WHY DOES IT SOUND LIKE I AM TALKING INTO A BARREL WHEN I INITIALLY WEAR MY AIDS?
When someone wears hearing instruments for the first time, a lot of new sounds are being re-introduced to you and your brain. Keep in mind, most of the new sounds your hearing, you have not heard in years. It's time to shift your thinking. This tin-ee/ barrel like sound will slowly subside once you have completely acclimated to the instruments. Some people acclimate faster than others, but just know that the sounds you hear in the first couple hours and days will change rapidly. Most patients are fully acclimated within 2.5 weeks. After your brain has fully come to terms with these new sounds, it will seem normal. We like to compare this process to when you jump into a cold swimming pool. Initially, it's a shock but soon thereafter, you are telling your friends/ family members to jump in with you. This isn't because the water temperature has changed, it's because your body has completely gotten accustomed to the chilly water. This is the shift in thinking we are referring to!
HOW LONG WILL MY BATTERIES LAST?
The type of instrument you wear determines how long your batteries will last. If you have the behind the ear style instrument, that includes an induction charger, your batteries will last anywhere from 25-29 hours per full charge. Keep in mind that if you do have this style, we recommend to charge them daily. Now if you have the behind the ear style that does not include the charger, your batteries can last 2-3 weeks. This battery size is a brown tabbed #312. If you wear the completely in the canal type hearing instrument, your batteries will last anywhere form 7-10 days. The batteries used for this style are Yellow tabbed #10 size. If you have any additional questions regarding your specific battery size or you are short on your supply and need another box mailed to your home, contact us at your convenience.
